“Death of the Canadian Landscape” | Randy Grskovic | Analogue Collage
Like most Canadians, I am tied to our landscape in a way I cannot explain. Over the years developments in the tar sands, over fishing, Endbridge etc. has made me so angry at the way our government handles our natural resources.
I can’t explain my compulsion towards the land, there are no words, but I can express my distain for the path we are heading down through images.
I thought it would be interesting to document the process of putting this one together. It has taken me over a year to collect all the right elements. It started with the idea and the Mountie but took a long time to find the right backgrounds, skulls and the Canadian Geese.
I know there is a perception that collage is a fast and easy, but for me, it’s a slow process. Not only do I have to be concerned with content, I also have to be aware of size and tonality of the images I collect. I really enjoy this type of work, it gives me a lot of time to think.
