"The work of Grskovic tends toward the point of ridiculous. He takes viewers beyond irony to confront them with the improbability of representation, forcing them to consider the fundamental assumptions underlying utopian ideals.

By problematizing representation and making its process transparent, Grskovic sets up a dialogue between what we consider to be real and our propensity to idealize that reality."

“The Architect” | Randy Grskovic | Analogue Collage, Electrical Tape, Thread, Ink and Graphite | 2008 | 22” x 36”

This was one of my most ambitious early collages. I stopped working digitally and picked up a razor blade. I started collecting very small engine parts from the pages of mid-century Popular Mechanics magazines. I wanted to create grandiose machines for the future. This one is an awkward Transhumanism, I’ve always imagined it as a plastic surgeon’s office.

You can see a circle at the top, it is a petri dish with the image of a male sculptor who is carving his muse.
