I want to take a second to big up one of my favourite dudes in the city: Dustin Fishbook at The Belmont Barbershop. Maybe the nicest guy in the service industry, he’s a total professional, with an unbelievable attention to detail. Constantly hustling, he has a new retail venture opening in a few weeks (in the upstairs space next door to the barbershop) that will be worth checking out.
The old-timey aesthetic, taxidermy, and good vibes notwithstanding, the real reason I return each month is because dude knows how to cut hair, and always makes my shit look good.
The Belmont, 111 East Broadway, Vancouver - $25/head (cash only)
I miss this dude. His commitment to his craft and attention to detail are incredible. Roger at Blood & Bandages in Toronto is a fine barber, but Dustin is the best. I look forward to checking out his haberdashery when I’m back in town.
Fishbook for mayor.

despite its often difficult-to-navigate system of non-appointments (which, after a while, actually really grew on me)...
